2019 Inaugural Honoree & Award Namesake
Eli Lapkin, Harrison, NY
Our first awardee, Eli Lapkin, was honored for his initiative and successes demonstrating the role each individual can play in converting simple change into wide scale collective change. Because of his leadership, the award shall be in his namesake in perpetuity.
Eli learned about WOC while attending Camp Wekeela in 2017 (our first year working with Maine Camp Experience member camps). In addition to returning home with great memories, he brought WOC back to four schools and two synagogues in his community in Harrison, NY, and neighboring towns of Purchase and Westchester. He also co-chairs WOC's Youth Ambassadors Group.
Thus far, Eli's efforts have resulted in more than $10,000 in change collected and invested in important programs, thousands of students and community members engaged, and a shining example of what one willing heart is capable of accomplishing in service of others and for the good of all.
Organizations supported by Eli’s efforts include Am Yisrael Foundation, American Cancer Society, American Friends of Reuth, American Heart Association, Feeding Westchester, Harrison Food Pantry, Kids Kloset, Make-A-Wish, and Midnight Run.
Eli chose Peace of Mind - The Israel Psychotrauma Center, for the $2,500 grant from HOT.
“World of Change has taught me the importance of leadership and taking charge of charitable actions rather than just passively following what others are doing.”
Eli is a model leader, inspiring and empowering others to reach for the change they are capable of making.
We are honored to name this award after him and we are pleased to share and celebrate his story, knowing it will motivate others to take action.
